What is Google Page Rank?

Google Page Rank is a rank given to ones website based on the number (as well as quality) of back links the webpage consists of. It is an extremely important ranking to almost all web owners, as it determines where on the Google search results your web page will appear when a certain keyword is searched for. Like I said, many website owners stress about their Google Page Rank, but many are starting to see that it is not the only factor that determines the success of ones webpage in the online world.

With more and more ways of advertising being created, the idea of Page Rank seems to be dying down, and many webmasters are beginning to see that it is really not what many think it is. Yes, it is somewhat important, and with a better page rank, you will have more success. But this does not mean that with a “not so great” Page Rank on Google, that you will have no success. Actually, this is not true at all. Many webmasters who do not rank amazingly on Google, are pulling in good figures (yes, money) per month. So why stress about Page Rank? Is it just something that webmasters like to brag about? Some think so, others will disagree.

The concept of Google Page Rank may be new to many readers, and if so, you may be wondering “What is my websites Google PageRank”. There are many websites out there that can give you your PageRank. One I know is quite well known is www.prlookup.com. You can also use this website to view the Page Rank of websites which you are just curious about. This can also help you in seeing where you are in comparison to web pages in the same niche as you (aka, your competitors…the enemy)!

As mentioned before, PageRank is only one factor. There are other factors as well, so webmasters, do not be worried if your PageRank is not amazing. Some of these other factors include keyword density in the title, website URL, and lastly but most importantly, the webpage content. These all play a great role in the webpage ranking. Now, you should also keep something else in mind. Just because a page ranks higher in the search results, does not mean that it will have a higher PageRank than the web pages below it. Try this out a few times. You will see that the 1st web page might not have the highest PageRank, furthermore, the 5th webpage may have the highest PageRank.

Now, here are a few tips to webmasters who might really benefit from these. Do not worry so much about exchanging links to increase your PageRank. There are better methods to increase your PageRank. Some of these “better methods” include creating better website content and coming up with a strategy for the keywords you are using. Remember, the keywords play a big role! It is a known fact nowadays that having the keyword in your website URL will greatly benefit you, so also keep this in mind.
